Does anyone know how this could have happened? it took ages to find out

what was intermittently blowing the fuse. Obviously the live supply and

the neutral flex going to the pendant were squashed up against each
other in the rose but how did they chafe through?

I'm not sure that asking three times will increase your chances of a

The two conductors should not touch inside the rose - maybe they were
too long, someone crammed on the cover and pinched them together, or
they were chafed by the gripping action of the cover and then moved by
subsequent removal/refitting.

Thanks Rob, the insulation is plastic and your explanation fits. It was
pinched, crammed and the cover has been off and on a few times over the
last 15 years.
