Default Pumping concrete

Building an extension for which I need about 1 - 1.5 Cube/Mtr of
concrete delivered

As the extension is at the back of my house, my only options are to
Wheelbarrow it down (up several steps) or
have it pumped in. (distance is about 35 meters)

I've been quoted between £240 - £270 +VAT for 5 hours on-site by
different "Concrete Pumping outfits" - which seems rather a lot of money..

Does anyone know of any alternatives? Can't concrete delivery companies
pump it straight from the truck?

Cheers,
Arno

That's about the cheapest rate for a concrete pump I've ever seen quoted!

That price for a pump is very good. Some mixing trucks have a pump, or
conveyor on the back, you need to search yellow pages for one.

A small dumper will work.

The best option is a mix & barrow service - see yellow pages. A
readymix service you will pay a heck of a lot of cash for them to
bring you the truck virtually empty.

Although 1.5 cu metres is deceptively large it's not beyond mixing it
yourself with a small mixer, which removes the time pressures - you
can then move a bit of agregate at a time over several days.

A Putzmeister type concrete pump will deliver a cubic metre of concrete in
sixty seconds!

Get a mixer in!

Depending to some extent on the height of the pour. A few years back in
New York I saw a third storey pour being made. The mixer trucks were
queued up in a line. Once the one at the pump emptied, it would drive out
of the queue and the next one would just reverse up and start discharging.
I was impressed.

Back in the mid 1970's I used to sell the hoses for concrete pumps, 6" bore
IIRC. In them days Putzmeister's slogan was " a metre a minute". Just
checked their web site and things have moved on a bit. Biggest beastie can
chuck out 160 cu/m an hour!!
