Default Dishwasher trips mains fuse

Hi,
This is my first post on this group, so I am a fresh newbie...don't
know much about DIY, which is why I thought I would get some info from
the people in the know.

We have been owning an Indesit D63 dishwasher for the past couple of
years, not much to complain about, with a half decent wash. Today, my
wife noticed that the cycle stopped in the middle and was not moving
forward.
Lo and behold, a few moments later the mains fuse box tripped. Now
everytime we switch the dishwasher on, the box is tripped, whatever
socket we put it in.

I am trying to assess what the problem could be, and if a repairer is
needed, or if a new dishwasher is preferrable. If the repairer is an
option, I'd like to point him in the possible right direction, so as
not to get ripped off.

Thanks for your help in the matter !

Olivier

I had this happen twice, fairly sure it was an Indesit

The problem was hot detergent fumes getting inside the door and affecting
the insulation on the wires inside the door. the cure was to separate the
wire loom and clean all the wires, then provide some additional insulation
with insulation or gaffa tape.

Paid and watched someone the 1st time, did it myself when it happened again
5 years later!

Had something similar on a previous woshdosh (an AEG) - abrasion of the
wiring loom (a ribbon cable, to be exact) which runs at the bottom of
the door, and flexes every time the door's opened or shut.

That said... once it had worn through enough to make little sparken und
fusen-poppen, it was (I considered) well beyond 'wrapping a bit of
insulation or gaffa tape' around it, and needed replacing. As our
Original Poster says he's new to the game, I'd recommend getting an
independent repairer in - they'll likely know just where Indesit Model
D63s typically get this kind of leccy fault and clear it up for under 50
notes all in. You might feel a little galled handing over the notes for
'just a few minutes work', but if you press the point you'll get the
invoice breakdown you deserve - that old chestnut, 'Item: replacing worn
wi materials - 0.2p; labour - 19.8p. Item: knowing which wire would
need replacing: 39.80 pounds'...

Me too, also Indesit

Dunno about detergent fumes but it was something happening in the cable loom
and I think I separated the cables and added more insulation and (touch
wood) it's been OK since.

Though I still have the spare heating element I bought for it, convinced
that was the problem, which the spares place refused to take back (even
though it's brand new & still in it's wrapping) :-(
