Default gas hob... (aka the domino effect: one small fault and you land up refitting the whole kitchen...)

hi

ok, i admit, the gas hob in my kitchen is probably getting on a bit...
(it's a Moffat Blueseal Ltd, Gas hotplate Moffat 2500, GC number = 11
545 43, for anyone who's interested)

the front left ring is now faulty, and i suspect in danger of leaking -
eg it's difficult to fine-adjust the flame level, and when you turn the
control knob to off, it no longer springs up slightly like the others
do... (so until i solve the problem i'm keeping the whole hob turned
off at the cut-off when not in use)

i contacted the manufacturer and spare parts are no longer available
for this model.

does anyone know, is there any hope of salvaging or otherwise getting
hold of the part i need from some other source, is a simple repair
perhaps possible without the exact spare, or do i have to trash the
whole hob and buy a new one?

.... the answer to which probably raises the next question:

meanwhile i got some brochures for gas hobs, and it looks the standard
now is all metric dimensions, and somewhat smaller than the hole in my
kitchen worktop that the existing hob fits in...

so if i have to get a new gas hob, it's beginning to look like i'm
going to have to replace the worktops too... (and if you're going to
bother doing that, then... and so on...)

or can i get a decent & reasonably-priced gas hob that will fit the
existing hole...?!

hope you can help
thanks
