Hi there
I’m just wondering if anybody can help me with a question. We have just built a new house (in Ireland) and have a level access (disabled type) shower fitted its on ground floor. The shower base was made on site, it was made like this= first the plumber inserted a grid and trap. Then the floor screed was installed with a slope to the trap (about 4" of sand & cement) next the Tiler came and tiled the floor with non-slip tiles. There aren’t any sides to the shower tray just a wall to two sides the other two sides will be fitted with shower surround. I have been looking at websites and they say there should be a waterproof membrane put under the shower base and sealed to the trap but our tiler says this is nonsense as the tile adhesive and grout will be water tight. Now I’m worried that the water from the shower will leak through the tiles and spread under the floor. Is my tiler right, or should there be a membrane? |
