I wonder if anyone can help?
I've got a bathroom and en-suite shower on the top floor. The original extractor fans go through the ceiling and duct out into the loft and through a ridge tile. The old ducting system was ripped out years ago during a renovation and now I have the task of replacing it. I'm looking at placing a standard fan in each room (with timer/humidistat) with the ducting from each fan terminating into the one ducting which then goes out the ridge tile roof. My concerns are with the positioning of the ducting and the chances/problems of condensation dripping back down the ducting and through the fan. Another concern is extracting from one room into the other room rather than through the roof - do I need to install a valve or something? Any advice and also any links to schematics on installing extraction systems appreciated. |

together this: Any advice and also any links to schematics on installing extraction systems appreciated. I can't be arsed to write it all out again so I've cut & pasted most of my reply from a recent post, (which you would have found using google). 1. You'll also need two back draft\one way valve affairs otherwise when you switch on fan A the ****ty air will be pushed into the room that is serviced by fan B. 2. What sort of ducting are you using? If it's normall soil pipe then a normal T. Other common methods of sourcing parts you require for ducting include aimlessly wandering round diy stores and builders merchants until something is spotted that can be made to do the job with liberal amounts of duct tape applied! 3. http://www.domusventilation.com/et100.html download the pdf, look on page 27, tees and backdraft dampers are on there. Now just wander into a local electrical wholesaler and ask if they can get domus, also ask for the equivalent parts in whatever brand they can manage, probably be cheaper if its from a more usual supplier. 4. You can also order online here. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Ind...d_1/index.html 5. Remember, you can do anything with a roll of duct tape. 6. The condensation is usually taken care of by installling a loop at the low point of the ducting below the vertical section to the ridge and either leaving it to collect and evaporate or you can buy condensation traps which you can attach drain hoses\pipes to. -- SJW A.C.S.
