anybody have one of THESE old steel reels? I need a "core axle" forit...(pix)
I'm trying to acquire the steel core, or 'axle' or 'hub frame' for this
old steel reel of unknown origin. I want to mount my reel on the wall, and use it with a hand crank (which I'd also need to make) to hold about 50 feet of 6-4 SO cord. because this reel has a 'pretty weird' convoluted central config, it'd probably be simpler for me to buy YOUR old reel-mounting 'stud' (with or without its handcrank) than make one. here's my reel: http://machines.byethost31.com/6-4_S...os/photo4.html please click 'next' above my reel image five times for different views of the reel according to this site, it's a "50 pair telephone cable reel, made by strong electric" (for the army, I'd guess) http://www.sprucemtsurplus.com/Cords...eonreel-lg.jpg an inquiry pends reply with the guys above, but I thought maybe you guys have seen one around somewhere, or know what the axle it uses looks like, or how it mounts 'ordinarily' on that axle...if I get LUCKY, somebody can sell me the 'core axle' (with or without handcrank, and/or the entire reel 'frame cage') for this reel. also be grateful to anyone who can send me, or post, a photo of what the 'center stud axle' for this reel looks like, OR even an image of its hand crank (assuming it ever had one). even verbal descript's of same will be much appreciated none of the interior dimensions of the existing reel center are any standard bushing (or bearing) sizes (anywhere), so a 'core axle' and bushings I'd need to make for it to make it workable would need to be 'custom-engineered from the git-go' making it pretty dang complex thanks guys, toolie - - replies sent by e-mail, if any, please remove the weirdstuff from my address before you click 'send' - thanks :-) - - |

dave fired this volley in
: http://machines.byethost31.com/6-4_S...os/photo4.html I'd almost suspect that reel never had a crank -- that the rim of the wheel was used to turn it. In any case, how hard could it be to buy or turn down a piece of rod stock and make a couple of Delrin bushings to run it in? Maybe an hour of work and three bucks worth of material? If you need a handle, you could clamp it to the pinched form on the one end of the hub, or you could just weld a handle stud to the rim of the frame. LLoyd |
