Default DeVilbiss settlement???

I just got a letter saying that I qualify for a settlement in some law suit
about DeVlibiss compressors and could pick from a choice of 5 free tools.
Anyone konw what the law suit was about? I thought lying about compressor
horsepower ratings was normal. :-)

Most of the cheap compressor companies were part of the suit. It's about
inflated HP figures (you'l' notice now a lot of .67HP compressors that used to
be 5.5+).

CH owners got $50 towards most of their product line. I ended up with two free
air hoses and a free grinder.

Now that you mention it, I do remember sending in something. I usually
don't respond to those class action things because it is usually not worth
the effort just so another lawyer can buy a yacht.

OTOH, I did get a $100 credit from UPS last month.

The deadline for submitting claims was Oct 21, 2004 but since you got a
letter I'm guessing you're already submitted. :-)

1. Sound system power ratings

The home units are horribly mislabeled, but the pro stuff is generally close
to correct.

2. Shop vac peak horsepower ratings

those...

3. Fake "low carb" junk food products

This is one instance where lawyers were splendidly useful. The court
system worked and fraudulent HP ratings will no longer appear, at
least on products by CH and devilbiss.

Here are some other industries where I would like to see some serious
fraud reduction:

1. Sound system power ratings
2. Shop vac peak horsepower ratings
3. Fake "low carb" junk food products
4. Use of surge power ratings on generators (5 hp generator being
falsely labeled as 7hp because it can produce 7hp for 2 seconds).

4. Hot chicks in bars being hot only because you're in a bar. Or maybe
because they can generate 7hp for two seconds--whatever. Damn you,
Tequila!

Hmm, that should have been #5, not #4. Damn you, Tequila!
