Default Bearings for home built tube notcher.

I need a bearing that will allow both rotational and linear motion at
the same time. These will be used with a hardened and polished 1"
shaft on a homebuilt tubing notcher that mounts to the drill press or
can be used with a regular 1/2 inch electric hand drill. I looked at
frelon bearings from Pacific Bearing. It is bearing #FL16. Will this
bearing work for this applicationw? Any other suggestions will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve

You might want to look into LM76 linear Motion bearings

www.lm76.com

Our Minuteman Teflon Composite excels over Pacific's Frelon in several
ways. If your shafts are alignes resonably well - you should be ok. Are
you supporting a moment load? This is critical, particularly in a
vertical axis. you can call me at LM76 1800-513-3163

The cheapy commercial units just use a heavy bronze sleeve bearing, no
reason that wouldn't do what you want as long as it's kept lubed.
You're not running 100K RPM with it, after all.
