The U.S. is, of course, a Christian nation

While a significant percentage of the American populace may self-identify as Christian, and an even larger portion of congress may do so, that doesn't make this a Christian country. The U.S. is explicitly a secular country. The founding fathers made this very clear both in the constitution and in the letters they wrote while they were drafting it. Look into the Federalist Papers for a reference. Likewise, look at the Treaty of Tripoli which was signed in 1796. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli In short, while the U.S. may be a country primarily composed of Christians, in no way is it a Christian country. They very idea was offensive to the founding fathers and is contrary to the principles upon which it was founded. Principles not religion. There is a difference. Martin |
