I always wondered about getting coupons to work/be used that you have
on an electronic device (phone, iPad, tablet...). Don't know how
official this is, but it might be worth a try:

honestly didn't know it wasn't written in the policy before that, we've
always done it.

If a cashier refuses to accept them ask a manager to check the recent
coupon policy update. Just because managers were supposed to inform
cashiers about it doesn't mean all of them did...
