A Russian emigre, Hollywood scriptwriter - what better to follow than a "book" (hopefully, a few books) to con the gullible simpletons. I tried to read it, was so badly crafted I threw it across the room in disgust. In recent years, the only other books to suffer the same fate were The DaVinci Code and a biography of Billy Connolly by his missus.. Dont you guys ever read anything except poorly crafted bull****? Is Ayn Rand the best the right can come up with as an intellectual, a theorist, a great mind showing the way ahead. Surely, in 2,000 years of Capitalism the Right could find SOMEONE who sounded plausible. Seems not. Sigh.... Andrew VK3BFA. |

You have great insights, Andrew. d8-) - what is this thing the right have for Ayn Rand - she wrote simplistic, badly written fantasy novels. She provides a highly elaborate excuse for greed and sociopathology, both of which have become normalized in American culture over the past 30 years or so. So she's on a rebound. Too bad she can't collect royalties anymore -- lung cancer, you know. To claim they were any more than that is an insult to the whole English language. A Russian emigre, Hollywood scriptwriter - what better to follow than a "book" (hopefully, a few books) to con the gullible simpletons. Don't assume malevolence when simple cupidity can explain it. I tried to read it, was so badly crafted I threw it across the room in disgust. In recent years, the only other books to suffer the same fate were The DaVinci Code and a biography of Billy Connolly by his missus.. Dont you guys ever read anything except poorly crafted bull****? They like to stay close to the seven basic plots -- even when they're acted out by wooden mannequins. Is Ayn Rand the best the right can come up with as an intellectual, a theorist, a great mind showing the way ahead. No, but she's sort of a comic book version of the real thing -- Burke, Oakshott, Kirk, Strauss, and so on. Reading the real thing is hard work. Gunner even evoked Kant and Hegel recently. I'm sure he's well versed in their philosophy. d8-) The Ayn Rand Comix require much less effort. Surely, in 2,000 years of Capitalism the Right could find SOMEONE who sounded plausible. Seems not. Sigh.... Andrew VK3BFA. They're out there. Just don't count on the righties having any idea about what they actually said. -- Ed Huntress |
