IIRC, the Income tax is a WW II tax that was brought to us by the
democratic party and FDR. When the constitution amendment didn't
get authorized by the states in time, congress overrode the constitution
and passed the law without Oklahoma who refused to be blackmailed.

I think the income tax is still with us.

Uh, the federal income tax amendment, the 16th, was ratified in 1913,
Martin. It was proposed by Norris Brown, Republican of Nebraska, and most of
the ratifications occurred during the Taft (Republican) administration.
Wrong war, wrong party, wrong president. g

After the requisite 36 states ratified it, an additional 6 states added
their ratifications. Oklahoma was one of the first states to ratify the
amendment, on March 10, 1910.

They way I heard it was the Feds put the squeeze on Oklahoma and finally
froze federal funds. That was to get them to sign.
