Good news after pulley replacement, but clutch stopped working
The good news is that after replacing VS pulleys on my Clausing 6913
lathe, it stopped rattling and runs rather quiet, even at high speed. Also, swapping bearings on the 3 HP motor, got rid of the squeaking sound. So, now, I would say, the lathe sounds exactly as it should and changes speed very smoothly. I had to take apart the countershaft pulley assembly to change bearings, replace one pair of pulleys etc. I have one problem, however. The clutch, which is located on the countershaft, stopped working. It is always engaged. The brake is working exactly as intended, but with the clutch not working, the brake works against the motor and that is not good. I did not forget to attach the arm that moves back and forth with the clutch handle. i |

Sounds like you have a jammed plate. Only disassembly will tell.

Or use the Bat-Signal, same difference. We're all bats here. (Hello, Mole-Richardson? Yes, I'd like a custom Gobo cut out of sheet stainless. But it's got to be a bit bigger than usual... 6' across. Yes, for a Sperry Searchlight, how did you guess? Needs to be the silhouette of a howling coyote. Oh, and we need some National carbons for it, too.) Wonder how good a welder they'd make, with that Chrysler Industrial straight six flathead...? -- Bruce -- |
