Cool project - have fun. Even better that "refurb" is "resurrect",
i.e., back from the dead. Bob

LOL...it was sitting in the corner collecting dust and rust. Seems that
my several layers of grease didnt hold up as well as Id hoped over the
last 3-4 yrs. Shrug..not bad...it cleans off fairly easily with one of
your wire cup brushes (give me a price for more of them if you would be
so kind..Im just about out)...but it ****ed me off.

I put the table back on it..Id forgotten it had a UNIVERSAL!! vbg
TABLE. Though I can only find 2 of the three flat topped bolts that
hold the swiveling table down to the top of the slide. Damnit. And
those 2 are bent. So Im going to have to make up another set just to set
the table back down and secure it. This aint gonna be easy Im thinking.
Metric..though I can make em ASA...but the heads are an odd shape and
only about 3/16" thick by about 1" in diameter..if they wernt
oval...chuckle..sigh.

Paint is flaking..so Im gonna have to probably hit it with paint
stripper, peel off what I can..hopefuly the filler stays in place..and
repaint. All the various levers have labels on metal plates rivetted to
the castings..and they are rather faded. So will probably have to clip
off the rivets, pull the plates, prime and paint..then rerivet em on.

Sigh..or simply hit the paint with a wire wheel, tape off the
labels..spritz on some paint and wait for it to dry. Its a machine..not
a work of art. 40 taper..cant tell what size the motor is..its
European..but looks to be about 2hp..maybe 3.

The base is filled with all manner of crapola..cuttings, dead bugs,
coolant pump..the usual. I had to fix the forklift..get it fired
up..sigh..then bring out the Hotsy pressure washer..only to find the
1.5hp motor is going bad. And I dont have anything close to it in size
or footprint in my stocks of motors. Gave em all away....damnit....

****....sigh..so I wasnt able to get full power out of it..mostly
steam...but that helped clean off most of the crap and old dried grease.
Then I spritzed it with a can of CRC...stuff wipes off easily enough and
Rustoleum doesnt seem to be bothered by it. More I think about it..the
more I believe Im simply gonna hit it with a wire wheel and then shoot
it with Rustoleum. Its a user..not a work of art. The original paint
has been flaking for years...right down to the primer. The owner told me
his operator had "shaved" it with a razor blade whenever he was bored
while waiting for a cut to finish. Hence the big white spots of primer.

Metal wise..Its actually in pretty damned good shape. Used the Starrett
straight edge on the ways..damned little sag..maybe a couple tenths. No
wear scratches..flaking is still mostly visible...shrug. Gonna pull all
the locks, levers etc etc and black oxide them. Most werent
chromed...so..hummm....I do have an anodizing shop I do work for..maybe
Ill call em up Monday and see if they have any steel process
coatings..drag everything down and have em all coated with Dayglo Pink
or something.....chortle...naw...probably black oxide.... though..chrome
would be best....humm....

Time to go repair a couple soldering stations for a buddy of mine.

Merry Christmas!

Gunner

What size dia.? I assume 5/8-11 thread? I sent some samples to a liberal
and then he had the nerve to verbally attack me and my family over some
political ditty. When I told him off, he returned the samples. We all got
a good laugh in the shop. I told the guys to throw the box away, God knows
if they were dipped in something hazardous.

2 or 3". The 4" ones are a bit of a strain on my angle grinders though
they work great on the big ones.

I think I managed to go through 5-6 of them in 4 yrs...pretty damned
good life span, and Ive used the **** out of them.

Oh.those flat brushes you trimmed for me for the welder
rebuild..superb!! Absolutely marvelous!

Thanks!!!

You do realize that refurbishing this old equipment and giving it more
service life before it goes to the scrap yard is a "Green" thing? Gunner
is a closet Greenie...

Some more pictures of the ongoing refurb.....

Next thing to do is knock off the old flaking paint and shoot it with
new paint.
