that sounds like an elementary school yard environment. Its a shame. I'm reminded of an adage that says: "Never argue with idiots. They will force you to their level where they have more experience and you will lose." |

I would agree. A bit of history... RCM has always been the home of a prominent conservative spammer which has drawn much of the spam to this group. Since the majority of the participants here have moderate to extreme conservative leanings, this spammer has been tolerated and encouraged. Now that the country has "tossed the conservative bums out", much of the retaliatory spam that follows this conservative spammer and his friends home to RCM is now of a liberal nature. Because of the conservative nature of our members, these posts annoy and frustrate them. It doesn't help that the Republicans seem hell bent on destroying their Party with a scandal a week effort while the Country stands as the brink of an economic depression. So how can we improve RCM? Well I have always considered that change starts with the individual. For my part, I try to post items of interest to the group..metal related of course...and any OT articles that are posted (which are few) are CLEARLY MARKED as such. If you click on an OT that I have posted, you assume the responsibility for your actions...whether or not you approve of the article. I suggest you do the same. TMT |

It most often makes sense to replace them period but not always. Here are a few examples where you need to sharpen a drill bit: 1. You're working on a hot job and need to get it done and you can't wait. 2. You wish to make a special drill bit that isn't commercially available. 3. You can buy a lot of large dull drills for nothing at an auction. 4. Your drilling hardened material / weldments and your drills aren't holding up. Jon Banquer San Diego, CA Now you are claiming to be a "Pro" ? Nice definition for you. Thanks for making me laugh, once again! Reply: I grew up in Las Vegas. Got a job on the Strip at 16. I heard the word "pro" many times. One time, I asked an old timer what it meant. He said, "A pro is a guy who does a good job no matter how he feels." He didn't say perfect job. Or outstanding job. Just good job. I remembered that. Steve |

I'm reminded of an adage that says: "Never argue with idiots. They will force you to their level where they have more experience and you will lose." Maybe one of the reasons its deteriorated has a great deal to do with you. I put up a post last weekend about drill sharpeners. If you machine I find it hard to believe you don't do any drilling yet I don't remember you commenting in that thread. I've made it clear that I think a built in optical inspection and measuring system is a necessity in a drill grinder yet most drill grinders don't have them. I happen to feel the same way about a tool and cutter grinder. Will you ignore this metalworking post as well and keep complaining rather than doing something about the problem? Jon Banquer San Diego, CA No the very tone of your reply of attack is the main reason you just got plunked. Not your technical input. I can find that quality of input without your brand of assault. So, you can't answer the question. You need to go into politics. |

What exactly is a newsgroup anyway? It's just a bunch of people putting their thoughts up for all to see. If there is a sense of deterioration that's simple, it's a matter of who is doing the posting. From my experience, the problem is that so many right wingers are in the group and can't contain themselves from making negative comments about "liberals". Then people respond to the attacks and it goes back and forth from there. If the right wingers would keep their political views to themselves you would see the "deterioration" stop right away. But that will never happen. They are so emotional they can't keep anything to themselves. Hawke **** me. Just think of what would happen if we talked about metal all the time. Shazam, Batman! |

Is TMT still trolling? TMT is the consummate troll. I wouldn't doubt if in real life he's not a politician. |

I like to cut metal. Lathes & mills &, lately LASERs. David Ah, if the newsgroup were made up of people like you. I can't run a lathe or mill or laser (except those little pointing devices), but I can fix your trailer or make you a nice gate or do lots of things with metal for you. Keyword: metal. Keywords not: Bush, WMDs, etc, etc, etc. |
