there are other websites with old drug company ads. some are pretty funny
now, some are kinda stunning. (thalidomide in particular).

there was one website in particular i was searching for (kinda edgy) but
couldn't relocate.

Outside of the association with children, I don't see anything stunning with
the thalidomide ad.

It was, is, much safer than barbiturates.
Unless you are pregnant.

They still use it in the treatment of leprosy.

So there's your answer. It's
paying for most of the research for new drugs right now and that will
continue in the foreseeable future. So there you go. By the way, at
least half of the money spent by pharma goes to advertising not R&D.

So what?

So when they cry about how much they are spending having to do research so
they can bring new drugs to the market it's nice to know they are spending
just as much on their advertising. So obviously the R&D costs aren't
killing
them like they want you to think. And don't you think that the drug
companies should be spending a lot more on finding new cures for medical
problems than simply on hawking them? Personally, I'd like to see them
quit
advertising altogether and spend all their money of research and
development.

Wasn't that the genetic mutator which killed babies in the womb and
produces gnarly defects in kids who survived it? The doc had Mom give
me barbiturates at a few months of age for my colic. Go figure!

Codeine Cannabis cough syrup. You sure wouldn't care if you still had
a cough after a couple tablespoons of that, would you? Marked "This is
a narcotic exempt preparation."

I guess Bayer Heroin would be similar. Jeeze...
