Milady is in charge of killing dandelions on six acres of strawberries. Note
our spelling in the title. Diesel fuel werks grate. Just a squirt in the whirl in early spring. She wants a squirt thingy (her words) and a long doodad (her words again) so she don't have to bend over. OK, I'm thinking huge squirt oil can. Re-arrange trigger, add long spout and install a spring ball check valve. Anyone seen a squirt oil can that holds a quart or more? Other ideas? Karl |

Karl gardening shops in australia sell a nylon pressurised sprayer with a long wand. it has a handle which doubles as a pressure pump. holds 10 litres and has a control valve just by the thumb. not expensive. your Home Depot should have something similar in the gardening section. I bought a 93887 padded belt http://tinyurl.com/44fd at the old HFT store and used that strapped through the handle of the 20 pound propane tank for use with my weed burner. It was bulky to haul around, but it worked for a strong guy like me. Next time, I'll strap the tank to the pneumatic-wheeled hand truck. It had a small tube at one end that you pressed down into the center of a dandelion, and it released a little squirt of herbicide. Maybe they're still around? -- Ed Huntress |

It leaves ugly black spots that don't seem to go away all summer. I'd think it would be tricky to find the right wick material, so that you got adequate flow without having the thing drip on your grass while you move around. Still, it looks promising. I've tried applying Ortho's Roundup (an all-purpose herbicide that kills everything) with a small paintbrush, just to see if it works and can be controlled, and it does. A wick-type dispenser might just save my back. -- Ed Huntress |

She wants a squirt thingy (her words) and a long doodad (her words again)
so she don't have to bend over. It's called a "hudson sprayer". http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...0674_200020674 I use one with diesel in burn season, 4 years and no chemical damage to the sprayer. Larger models have a sling strap so she won't have to hold it. There are even 12 models that need no pumping |

Karl Ok----- on my hand weed sprayer, I spliced in length of 1/4" soft copper line. The splices were made with brass tube of the correct size. Pretty easy to do...start with brass wand, cut, section in splices--done.. maybe 5 minutes.. now the spray wand is maybe ankle high when in use..ED |

It's about as safe as anything ever used. I hear this or that product is worthless and sometimes it's so but often it's due to user ignorance. For example I found that mixing Glyphosate with distilled water increases it's effectiveness greatly, or adding some adjuvent that changes the ph and buffers the mineral in the local water. Or even changes the ionic charge in some cases.. ED |

Ordinary one-gallon (or two) pneumatic sprayer, with the tip dialed out to "stream". ie, the one I use for dormant oil (I have a few less trees than you do, to say the least) would work fine. Blip the trigger and squirt some oil. Put on the strap for easy carrying, or drop it in a pack basket. Of course, as a large orchardist you may not have one handy, since you use rather bigger spray equipment. But easy and cheap to get. -- Cats, coffee, chocolate...vices to live by |
