Default Cleaning Debris From Flutes Between Drill Plunges...

I have a customer working in a material that sticks in the flutes of the
drill between strokes and doesn't necessarily cause problems, but could...
They want to physically remove the material between strokes without stopping
the rotation of the unit. I told them to use a very high pressure air blast
nozzle on the tooling but they want a physical method that runs down the
flutes, etc.

Any such tool exist?

BTW, the best answer we've had yet is to use inverter rated motors,
slow and stop them on the retract, reverse their rotation at a slow speed
whole a brush probes the flutes and forces the debris down and out of the
drill. Then retract the brush and reverse back up to full RPM... Since
they are drilling every 4-5 seconds and going 24/7, I figure this may work
best and be quite a "How It's Made" filming opportunity. grin

I've seen bits with a spring loaded collar that matches the bit's flute
profile and will eject any remaining swarf when the bit retracts.
Obviously this collar also has to have some clearance / deflector
profile in the portion that rides in the flutes to deflect most of the
swarf out during drilling. No idea who makes them.

I have seen self clearing drills before. They used spring loaded collars
with brass brushes that rode in the flutes. When the drill retracted the
spring pushed the collars down and the brushes cleared the swarf. Most
of them had springs that were also wound so that they assisted the
rotation of the collar. These were on gun drills, but I don't see a
reason why they wouldn't work for your application as well.
