Trailer wiring problem
I just made an adapter to convert my 6 pin round on my truck to an
RV 7 pin on a borrowed trailer. All of my trailers use the 6 pin round with brake controllers so I don't want to change everything to the RV - yeah, I know, someday or when I buy a new truck. Made this thing up. No trailer brakes on this particular rig. I have running lights. I have brake lights. When I try the turn signal it makes my dash indicator blink really fast and I have nothing on the trailer. Same for right turn. 1994 Ford F150. Any ideas? Please notice, the brake lights work, same bulbs AFAIK. I don't really want to change the other guys"s trailer. I made one run without the turn signals, but I would like to figure this one out. -- ______________________________ Keep the whole world singing . . . . DanG (remove the sevens) |

Look at the pinouts for both 6-pin and RV 7-pin connectors and wire accordingly. http://www.accessconnect.com/trailer_wiring_diagram.htm They screwed up normal wiring color codes in the 7-pinners. sigh Alternatively, add the 7-pin female connector to your truck. Depending on your turn signal setup, you may need a taillight converter, too. -- "Given the low level of competence among politicians, every American should become a Libertarian." -- Charley Reese, Alameda Times-Star (California), June 17, 2003 |

DanG (remove the sevens) Sounds like you have a fixed load flasher - perhaps fixed for two lamps - in your truck. When you add the trailer lamps, you overload the flasher and cause it to flash faster. Swap in a variable load flasher and you should be all set. |
