One consideration is what collett does the spindle use? Some of the B&S are
hard to find a deal on. Sometimes even just find. Ron "Jeff" wrote in message news Any thoughts out there on Index brand mills from the 1960's? Jeff |

Used, but at the price I got it, it beats the heck out of not having one, and it's done lots of good work so far that couldn't be done otherwise. My neighbor has a nicer, bit newer (more like a bridgport) Index, which is a darn nice machine. B&S - not too difficult to find at all. If you really want to, you can have the spindle reground for R-8 I understand. _-_-bear |

Index brand mill
I have a Wells Index model 745 with R8 spindle. Other than belt and
handle replacement it's been perfect. It's heavierand more rigid than a comparable Series 1 Bridgeport and it does good work. Index mills were/are made in USA and you can get parts and support from Wells Index. On Sat, 21 Jan 2006 07:01:52 -0800, "Jeff" wrote: Any thoughts out there on Index brand mills from the 1960's?
