Walt The "1" designates an all position rod, as opposed to a "2" for flat position only . The 8 designates the flux type. In this case, a Low Hydrogen flux. -- "I love deadlines, especially the wooshing sound they make as they fly by" - Douglas Adams |

Welding rod question
What does the 18 mean? *********** I was taught the '1' means 'any position' welding. Flat, vertical, overhead. If I remember correctly, I believe the '8' means DC only, reverse polarity.... but I don't remember that well anymore. |

Steve From Lincoln's web site: http://www.lincolnelectric.com One of their pdf files, you'll have to find it yourself. I renamed it and don't feel like searching for it right now They do have a lot of good info on electrodes if you care to find it. Use a fixed font so this lines up correctly.
