Default Bandsaw -- Belt vs. Gear Drive

I'm looking at 7"x12" horizontal bandsaws. Among the choices
from Grizzly, Enco, and KBC appear to be three different designs.

Enco has a 137-3195 7 X 12 1HP GEARHEAD BAND SAW for $ 750 --
the only gearhead model in that price range that I've seen.

Does anybody have experience with that model? I gather a
gearhead bandsaw will supply more torque for the harder
cutting jobs -- but will probably also be more prone to damage
if the saw jams.

Can anybody recommend this model, or one of the other saws in
the same price range?
