he never would have gotten *anywhere*.

Anyone who wants a *real* howling laugh should read the letters
that went back and forth between the Wright Brothers and the US
army, when the brothers wanted to demonstrate their airplane to
the military.

The end result was they finally sold it to the french because
the army folks were dumber than a sack of hammers.
