The Twisted Rod window system question - more appropriate post
Very common setup. The twirly metal rod you are referring to is a tensioner.
There should be one on each side of the window. You can push the rod all the way up till it stops and then rotate it clockwise (the same direction it spins when you push it up) for about 8 turns. You will feel it getting tighter like winding a clock. Keep it from spinning back as you pull it down and attach it back to the window. Repeat for the other side. Push the window down. If it pops back up, you need to let a little tension off both sides. If it stays down, push it up. If it falls back down, you need to increase the tension. Make sure you tension both sides equally or the window will not rest plumb. ReRe "m" wrote in message ... I just saw my post and realized how silly it looked - using a new photo editor and I didn't notice that image size field was defaulted to 'poster size'! Very sorry. here's another try with only one little image - OK? ================================================== ========= Hi all, I have some windows which have, in place of counterweights, some spiral rods attached to the window and a long tube hung from the inside top of the window case. The window stuck and so I removed the trim and the window just drops out - OK now what do I do? There is a white plastic slotted flange which slides up and down the spiral rod, and would seat into the receiving sleeve. How do I replace this lower window? Have you seen this 'technology' before? It is original - not a counterweight replacement/retrofit - if that matters. There are a couple pictures to illustrate the hardware. I included only 1 to save bandwidth - I have more if they'll help. Any advice or guidance would be MOST appreciated!! Regards from the center of the Baseball and Football universe... Yay Sox, Go Pats! Martin |
