Default Downshifting when going down steep hillls

https://www.ford.com/technology/driv...scent-control/

It says it controls the brake and accelerator so you can concentrate on
steering, but about the transmission, only this:

"This capability helps you concentrate on steering since you don’t have
to apply the brakes or downshift the transmission. " Why not? Disk
brakes may not overheat like drum brakes do, but why rely on them
entirely when you can downshift. Now they are saying basically NOT to
downshift. If the auto system fails, you'll be happy you downshifted,
and even if it doesn't.
