Lawyer: Man killed by officer was asleep when police fired

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- A Maryland man who was shot and killed by a police officer was asleep in his bedroom when police opened fire from outside his house, an attorney for the 21-year-old mans family said Friday. The man's girlfriend was also wounded.

The Montgomery County Police Department said in a news release Friday that Duncan Socrates Lemp €śconfronted€ť police and was shot by one of the officers early Thursday. Rene Sandler, an attorney for Lemps relatives, said an eyewitness gave a €ścompletely
contrary€ť account of the shooting. She said police could have €śabsolutely no justification€ť for shooting Lemp based on what she has heard about the circumstances.

€śThe facts as I understand them from eyewitnesses are incredibly concerning,€ť she told The Associated Press.

The warrant that police obtained to search the Potomac home Lemp shared with his parents and 19-year-old brother doesnt mention any €śimminent threat€ť to law enforcement or the public, Lemps relatives said in a statement released Friday by their
lawyers. Nobody in the house that morning had a criminal record, the statement adds.

If nobody had a criminal record I wonder why he was high risk and not
allowed to possess the guns he had. A flashbang is common on that type
of warrant. Sounds fishy.

The department's news release on Friday says tactical unit members were
serving a €śhigh-risk€ť search warrant around 4:30 a.m. when one of the
unit's officers fatally shot Lemp. Police detectives recovered three
rifles and two handguns from the home. Lemp was prohibited from
possessing firearms, police said.

€śDetectives were following up on a complaint from the public that Lemp,
though prohibited, was in possession of firearms,€ť the release says
without elaborating.

Sandler said the family believes police fired gunshots, not a flashbang
or other projectile, from outside the home, including through Lemps
bedroom window, while he and his girlfriend were sleeping. Nobody in the
home heard any warnings or commands before police opened fire, she said.

Who cares. He didn't have a criminal record and he was white. Just a
normal everyday event unlike killing a black man with a rap sheet 3
pages in length and is worshiped as a martyr.

As some of you know, Potomac is an expensive n'hood. Rich to
upper-middle-income. Maybe some that's regular middle income.

Below there's a picture of their house. It's nothing special, maybe
even lower middle income. Not as fancy as other homes just down the
street on the same street.

I had not heard about this, though it's recent, march 12.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Duncan_Lemp

Lemp allegedly had a criminal history in juvenile court that prohibited
him from legally possessing firearms until the age of 30

Juvenile records are sealed so maybe that's why it was reported he ahd
no record.

"An attorney for Lemp's family said the family had been unaware of any
conviction that would have prevented Lemp from owning a gun" Attys
always say things like this. It's their job to do so.

Police stated that Lemp had rigged a booby-trap device that was designed
to "detonate a shotgun shell at the direction of anyone entering" the
bedroom.[7] "After officers entered the bedroom, the other occupant of
the room warned the officers to be careful of the device rigged to the
exterior door," and Montgomery County bomb-squad technicians were
brought in to "render the device safe," police said.[7]

As bad an idea as this is, it seems like a worse idea if you're sharing
the bedroom with someone.

I'm surprised the MSM didn't report Lemp was wearing a MAGA hat while sleeping.

Default Ever heard of Eric Garner?

The black man killed by white cops in NY in 2014. Guess who was
president? Oh yea, the halfrican, who did NOTHING for many years about
the incident and the cop wasn't even fired until 5 years later. But of
course, this one is all Trumps fault even though the cops were
immediately fired and have been arrested.

Double ****ing standards, as usual.
