Default old lamp post , new lamp

Can you ground the lamp to the inside of the metal lamp post using a screw.
Only black and white from the post. No ground. New lamp has a bare wire ground.
Thanks

Yes, but it will be virtually worthless. Put the lamp on its
own circuit and
use the smallest rated gfci you can. A better solution would be to run
a new set of wires
with a ground.
Someone will provide more/better information.

You can do it if it makes you feel better but it doesn't accomplish
anything you are not getting from the mounting screws. There is
certainly no guarantee of clearing a fault with that wire.
Best advice, put it in a GFCI.
