Default Whats the difference between Linoleum and Congoleum?

Simple question.
Whats the difference between Linoleum and Congoleum?

We went to Home Depot looking to buy some Linoleum for our bathroom.
The store employee said the closest thing they have to linoleum, is
congoleum. What's the difference?

Congoleum is a brand name for that type of floor covering

https://www.congoleum.com/

Linoleum is the generic name, which was a brand name before it became
generic, like aspirin did

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linoleum

From your cite:

"Between the time of its invention in 1860 and its being largely superseded by other hard floor coverings in the 1950s, linoleum was considered to be an excellent, inexpensive material for high-use areas."

Congoleum makes vinyl floor covering and I think other stuff too.
Vinyl floor covering replaced linoleum and is probably what the OP wants.
I'd be asking for vinyl floor covering, not linoleum.

Linoleum is safe and natural ingredients and Congoleum is toxic plastic,
a.k.a. Vinyl. Linoleum is hard to find, because it can be renewed
indefinitely. Congoleum is easy to find, because you must replace or re-buy
it. "Ecological" is an oxymoron by this world of morons.

So true. Here is a quote by finehomebuilding.com: While linoleum is all
natural, vinyl is a synthetic product made using a variety of toxic chemicals,
primarily polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin.
