It's the same old moronic statement the gun control nuts preach
whenever there's a tragedy involving firearms. "We need gun
control." They really believe criminals will happily turn over
their weapons along with the law-abiding folks.

It's a long term project. Given how many guns are sloshing around
in the USA, it will take many years of stringent gun control to
have an effect. Still, the sooner you get started ....

What, exactly do you propose to do?

Start off by not selling guns at all. Then call in the existing ones.
I would expect a little resistance from the NRA at first, but less
once a few guns have been taken from their "cold, dead hand".

To do that you have to get rid of the 2nd Amendment to the
Constitution. That means you vote on it so you ned enough votes to
pass it. How do you think that will go?

Then you shut down the gun manufacturers, sellers, ammo makes and put
thousands of people out of work. That will go over real big too.

In this case, diligence on the part of the Air Force would have
helped. The law was there, just not followed.

Surely, they don't have to police civilians?

No, the do not police them but reporting his status to the database
prevents him from buying guns. May have been a simple oversight, but
it was a deadly one. Laws are in place, but they have to be followed.

There are laws that say you cannot rob banks and gas stations. How
are they working out?

They are working well here in the UK.

No robberies ever take place? Good for you.

There was a screw up, he should have been prohibited. Buying a gun
requires a background check for every purchase. Criminals or nuts often
have a girlfriend or family member who is not prohibited buy for them.
That is also a crime and more of them should be jailed.

But the US is awash with guns and I've been told by US posters in this
NG that anyone could buy a gun privately and avoid any background checks.

I can't believe Frank is so stupid to think criminals won't break the law and obtain a gun illegally.

A lot of them will. But making it more difficult it a start. And
with it being more difficult, instead of having a brand new AR-15
and six semiauto pistols with large magazines, maybe they wind up
with just one revolver that they bought from some criminal in the
hood. Maybe instead of selling them the gun, the criminal hits
them over the head and robs them or kills them in the process too.

In this case the perp obtained it illegally, from a gun dealer,
with the check system not working.

Oh brother. More like

no guns in honest hands

lots of guns in criminal hands

criminals like to use knives, but are increasingly switching to guns

no change in murder rate; crime is getting worse

simple
