The food was wonderful, and Southern cooking at its best. The unexpected thing was that the kitchen and serving staff were all black and dressed as slaves might have been dressed during that period. Yeah, that wouldn't fly today either. When I stayed at the Hyatt lester Maddox had a gift store in Underground Atlanta where he sold ax handles among other thing. I got an autographed photo for a friend in Boston who was a McGovern supporter. http://www.atlantatimemachine.com/do...stermaddox.htm Sometime in the '80s I went back to Atlanta and mentioned going to Underground Atlanta to someone. "No, you don't want to do that." was the advice. I think they may have cleaned it up again. I have a cousin who moved to a senior citizen complex near Atlanta to be close to her daughter. As a born and bred Yankee she had a bit of a culture shock. |
