I have a Desa fireplace (with pilot and wall switch) that had the fake logs and glass front. I took all those out and replaced the burner with an H unit and put fireplace glass chips on top of it. The pilot seems to light okay and lights the H unit as long as there isn't any glass around it but it kind of takes away from the whole effect of the glass chips covering all of the H unit when there's a big gap around the pilot. Would I be able to override all of the pilot stuff and connect straight to the gas intake and manually light and control it with the gas valve? If so, could I also control the flame with just the gas valve? It puts out a lot of heat.
Thanks for your help! |

You should check you local listings for such a company so you don't blow your house off its foundation. Fooling around with LP or natural gas equipment is something that only a very experienced DIY'er or professional should undertake. The gas valves and pilot assemblies have safety features that should not be modified. Do your research before you frak with anything that uses LP or NG. ヽ(ヅ)ノ [8~{} Uncle Gassy Monster |

You might want to run that incredibly stupid idea by your homeowners insurance company. +1 And the local fire department chief. |

I guess only "experienced plumbers" need to ask questions here. Several years ago, there was a gas explosion not far from my home that destroyed a two story brick apartment building. It's a few miles away and it shook my house. I don't like to see people get hurt because of preventable accident. I'd also advise someone to steer clear of fooling around with electrical wiring if they had no basic knowledge of electricity. Most people have no clue about the safety features built into LP and NG appliances. Safety featured which should never be modified. There are a lot of YouTube videos about servicing LP and NG equipment that I'd suggest you watch and a number of websites you should peruse that have lots of information on working on LP and NG equipment. Knowledge is not only power but it's safety. Stay safe my friend. ヽ(ヅ)ノ [8~{} Uncle Safety Monster |
