http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articl...ca-s-old-elite ROFL As if Congress, all the lobbyists, all the special interests, have just disappeared? The same Congress was just put back into office, with some exceptions, but the composition has not materially changed. Trump is president, not dictator. Besides that, he has little knowledge on most of the issues. Ryan and McConnell will be formulating the required legislation and there is zero evidence to believe that the same process, the same special interests, will not be represented. And Trump? He has no core principles, won't care much what gets passed as long as he can find an angle to spin it as positive and take credit for it, lying when needed. In short, I expect Trump to quickly become part of the wheeling, dealing, let's make a deal establishment. Did Trump reject foreign steel for his buildings on principle? No, he used it because it was cheaper and expedient. Did he reject importing foreign workers and hire only Americans at his properties? No, he imported foreign workers using H1B visas. Did he have his clothing made in America, on principle? No, he bought it from China. So, why would he suddenly now be this great principled president, who's not going to do more of the same, ie whatever he feels like, whatever is expedient, whatever compromise works, to get things done? |

In short, I expect Trump to quickly become part of the wheeling, dealing, let's make a deal establishment. The Republicans have a hard choice to make. They can carry on business as usual and a bunch of them will be looking for new jobs in 2018 or they can help Trump achieve his goals. It's their call. The more astute might realize the GOP establishment did NOT win the election, Donald Trump did. But then they've always been good at snatching defeat... Even some of the Dems have realized a day late that if you abandon your working class base and depend on a coalition of transsexuals, blacks, and Hollywood stars you might lose the country. |
