Default Gas Bills

Group:

I've just moved to LA and have had my first couple of gas bills. They seem
high to me. Can someone give me some approx figures for typical gas usage
for:

Couple, no kids
1924 single storey house
Los Angeles
Gas range (1950's beast), gas furnace (about 20 years old), gas water heater

Cheers

No one can , nobody knows your House insulation, water temp, hot water
usage, tank condition, house temp, heating system efficiency, House
SIZE, amount of cooking etc etc etc. Is this your first house ?

Like what seems high? My gas bill in the winter is close to $200 a
month, then about $20 during the summer. I know other people were
paying $400 a month although they have less insulation. I know it's
rare in LA to talk to neighbors, but it makes sense to check there.
Check your ductwork, insulation, furnace and install a programmable
thermostat. When I lived in LA, used the (electric) ceiling heat 2 or
3 times a year.

LA,,,, the city of lost angels... Yes you just moved into the highest gas
prices in the region. Wait till you get your electric rates. I have seen
0.25 a kwh in Pasadena after you add in all of the taxes and de-regulation
bull.
I sure hope you got a raise... a big one. I have friends that make close to
100 grand living in the LA basin. While I live in Phoenix and make in the
neighborhood of 65 grand and have a better quality of life in my opinion...

Virtually nothing.

Maybe $20.

I assume you haven't used the furnace and cooking doesn't use much gas, so
the only thing you have going for you is the hot water heater.

First..whats high to you? You are living in the area of high fuel and high
electric rates...(California Edison thinks they own you..well..in a way,
they do.)

When I was living in Palm Springs, our gas was about 3X what it is here, and
our electric was 4X easy what it is here....per bill...that is..not per Kw.
