Default Walk-to-wall carpet problem.

About four years ago, we had some wal-to-wall carpeting installed in one
of our bedrooms. Lately there has developed a bulge in the carpet at
about the middle of the room. The bulge goes right down the middle from
one side of the room to the other. I assume that it is probably the
underlay that is the problem. Any suggestions as to the fix? Do I have
to remove the bed, dressers, armoire, etc and call in a specialist?

You need to have the carpet restretched. It's the same process as
installing the carpet but without having to lay the carpet and pad. The
reason for this is that in years past carpet had a jute backing (natural
fiber) that would stretch when installed (sort of like a rubber band).
Now most carpets have a very rigid synthetic backing that won't stretch
much, if at all. As the carpet is walked on it will very slowly enlarge
and there is no compensating stretched backing to take up this movement.

Price to restretch carpet that I've seen are about $3 per yard.
