A brokered convention with Paul Ryan emerging as the candidate would
plumb the depths of voter participation. One could only hope the
Democratic voters would be less energized by Clinton.

Per SeaNymph:
I've heard talk they may be going for a brokered convention.

Can somebody give a dumbed-down explanation of what a brokered
convention is? From context, I am guessing that it is the Repub
Establishment's way of getting around troublesome voter choices - as I
understand the Dem's "SuperDelegates" to be.

From Wiki:

"Once the first ballot, or vote, has occurred, and no candidate has
a majority of the delegates' votes, the convention is then considered
brokered; thereafter, the nomination is decided through a process of
alternating political horse-trading, and additional re-votes.[1][2][3][4]
In this circumstance, all regular delegates (who previously may have been
pledged to a particular candidate according to rules which vary from
state to state) are "released" and are able to switch their allegiance
to a different candidate before the next round of balloting. It is hoped
that this 'freedom' will result in a re-vote resulting in a clear majority
of delegates for one candidate."

In other words. It's a cluster**** where anything goes and the shenanigans
payoffs and corruption are rampant. Delegates are bought and sold the
RNC generally gets its way to the detriment of all citizens.

LOL! "Cluster****" is exactly the word that came to mind, right before
I read it. And people think their "votes" actually mean anything? The
two choices we get are decided for us, and either way, the Big Money has
financed both campaigns... nothing like owning every horse in the race.

BTW: just heard an interesting theory around Christie's
endorsement of Trump.

The theory:

- The Repub establishment have started to accept Trump as a
realistic possibility.

- The Establishment sent Christie to Trump with the endorsement
offer in exchange for becoming a running mate.

- If a Trump/Christie ticket wins, Trump is the figurehead and
Christie makes up for Trump's lack of political experience
and knowledge by pretty much calling the shots - a bit like
Dubya and Cheyney....

- "The Base" gets their demagogue, but The Establishment has
a mole.

Who *comes up* of this stuff ?? I think whoever does is
brilliant.

That's what will eventually happen, but it doesn't even have to be
Christie.

I've heard talk they may be going for a brokered convention.

They say that every primary season.
Won't happen.

Trump, VS Pantsuit... gee, what a choice. Why hasn't Pantsuit been
indicted? I keep waiting for a last-minute White Knight to come riding
in, but it's probably too late for that.

If she does, Biden is on standby.
The plan is ready.

I don't think it would be Ryan, but more likely Rubio. The
establishment, old school republicans are most likely looking for a way
to not nominate Trump. But for that to have a snowball's chance in
hell, I think everyone would have to vote for Cruz on Super Tuesday.

Then again, who knows what the heck will happen?

The DNC loves Clinton. She fully represents what the Democratic party
became under the leadership of Bubba. The rank and file appear to have a
problem with her, except for the blacks. I have to wonder about that.
Sanders was marching in civil rights demonstrations while Clinton was a
Goldwater Girl. Given two aged honkies I'd think they would go for the
one that actually did anything to further their cause.

That's a possibility. Rubio cleans up well and might bring in the Cubano
vote; I'm not sure about the Hispanic vote in general. Central American
Hispanics tend to thing Cubans are a protect species that got the red
carpet treatment. If it does turn out to be Rubio they had better take
him aside for a campaign boot camp. You know that 'who do you want
answering the phone at 3AM' is going to come up.

Per SeaNymph:
Living in Minnesota, even though I wasn't here when they elected
Ventura, that same comparison has been in my mind since the beginning.

What is it with Minnesota?

I would have thought that Minnesotans were above-average in both
intellect and education.

But Jesse Ventura in 1999? And then Michelle Bachmann in 2007

What gives?

This is a largely liberal state, with a huge amount of taxes, that just
keep going up and up. It's a beautiful place and the people are
wonderful, but we'll never retire here.

That happened 4 years ago, pretty much.
