Trying to replace an older sauna heater with a newer unit.

The source from wall has 4 wires.
one RED, one BLACK, one WHITE and another WHITE.

The box on sauna has 3 wires.
one WHITE, one BLACK with '# 1" label on it and another BLACK with '#2"
label on it.

How do I connect these wires?

Here is what I can /guess/ from the info you have given:


RED would go to either sauna black
BLACK would go to the other sauna black


White would go to sauna white


NOTE: The white wire from the box should be an actual wire that runs
back to the breaker box along with the red and black wires.


I am guessing that the other white wire is simply tied to the metal
conduit box and serves as a ground. If so, that actually should be a
green wire and it would go to the metal frame of the sauna. If one of
the white wires has a piece of green tape on it, that would be the ground.

How was the original sauna wired?

Agree that one of the four supply wires should be ground and it
should be green or marked with green tape. It's also odd that the new
heater has no green ground wire. What do the wiring instructions for
the new heater say? This heater is 240V? With or without a neutral?

I appreciate your prompt response. You are correct. One of the WHITE
wires did have green tape on it. I also traced the other WHITE wire to
the main panel. Your assumptions were correct.
