OT biodiesel
In line with OT ethanol, an ad touting biodiesel said one of its
benefits was to raise the price of soy beans 60 cents (don't know on what measure) as a benefit to farmers. Using either ethanol or biodiesel in cars instead of for food is insanity. |

Its like petroleum use in these products as well as plastics, maybe 1% of the total, insignificant. |

Take care, Andy Lower fuel value plus high energy use in conversion to usable product. Biodiesel may have an advantage because all you need to do is a simple chemical conversion but ethanol energy costs are high and if you factor in the increased cost of corn you probably get a loss in energy. |

Using either ethanol or biodiesel in cars instead of for food is insanity. Although ethanol from sugar cane was an instant success, bio-diesel is not working out in Brazil. Too expensive to produce, though there is an advantage - you can separate the high quality protein from the "not so good for your health" oil, so it might be a solution in the far future. If backward countries like the USA don't implant public health services with birth control, I can see a future with "soy meat steaks" for the masses. However, one friend of mine used to use waste vegetable oil from restaurants, and turn that into bio diesel. I'm OK with using waste oil for motor fuel. -- .. Christopher A.
