Not to put too fine a point on it, but it's spelled mayor, not mayer.

Now that he's appologized so profusely on national television, I think the press should just leave him alone and see if he can do his job without getting into any more trouble. The problem is that no one can stand up to the relentless scrutiny that he's been working under since he started getting into trouble. He did some things that he shouldna, like use his position to help raise money for a little league baseball team that he coaches, but those are small potatoes. His getting drunk and beligerant is no worse than the drunken rants that Calgary mayor Ralph Klein used to go on, and it's far short of the sexual harassment the mayor of San Diego stepped down over. Yeah, he smoked crack, but so did the mayor of Washington D.C. and probably a lot of people that you'd never suspect of that.

Mayor Ralph Klein once stopped his car and started throwing coins at some homeless people he saw, yelling at them to get a job. He was very intoxicated at the time, and subsequently publically apologized for his behaviour.

I don't think Rob Ford should associate with people that smoke crack, and if it turns out he gets addicted to any kind of drug, including alcohol, I think he should step down for the good of the City. But, everything he's done up till now can be overlooked provided he gets his act together and does well by the people of the City of Toronto.

PS:
The first Prime Minister of Canada, Sir John A. McDonald, had a drinking problem. Some would say he was a confirmed alcoholic. He was often absent from the House of Commons because he was "ill", or more to the point, drunk or hungover. He once showed up drunk and rose to speak in the House of Commons, managed to get out the words: "This is what I think of the members opposite..." and prompty puked his guts out all over the carpet in front of him. Our country has a "colourful" history, and Rob Ford is carrying on in that tradition.
