Happy, feel-good news stories about america and americans (Tuesdayedition)
Here is your Tuesday morning dose of news and information about life and
times in the USA, circa 2013. The USA is such a great, happy place these days - isin't it !? =============================== Sacramento California: A man intentionally drowned his father’s dog in the pond at Fairfield’s Civic Center—and he doesn’t know why he did it, Fairfield Police say. Witnesses reported seeing a man carrying a medium-sized dog into a pond at the civic center and dunking it into the water until it didn’t come back up for air. The dog was described as a brown female pit bull with a chain around its neck. She was retrieved from the water by officers on a small boat. Bryan Cavanah, 21, of Fairfield admitted to drowning the dog, though he said he didn’t know why he did it. Cavanah was arrested for felony cruelty to an animal and violation on probation. He is on probation currently through Solano County for assault with a deadly weapon. Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man has been charged with felony animal cruelty after a dog was found dead in a home over the weekend. On Sunday police received a call regarding a dead animal at a home in the 400 block of Tyler Avenue. Police and Animal Control officers responded to the home and found a dog with what appeared to be stab wounds. According to the dog’s owner, it was a 10-month-old German Shepard/Golden Retriever mix named Zoey. Officers spoke to witnesses, and police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Joseph C. Justesen of the 400 block of Tyler Avenue. He was arrested and charged with one count of felony animal cruelty. Justesen is a roommate of the friend of the owners who had been taking care of the puppy. He is a Petty Officer Third Class, assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln. According to a Navy spokesperson, he enlisted in 2009. HOUSTON (AP) — Houston police are trying to determine why a man fatally shot himself while in his wife’s hospital room just hours after she gave birth. Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva says the husband, whose name hasn’t been released, died Monday at Memorial Hermann Hospital. A spokesman for Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, where the shooting happened Sunday afternoon, says police promptly secured the area and people in the vicinity were not in danger. While the hospital has a no-gun policy, one hospital visitor expressed concern that maybe more should be done to keep the area safe and secure. Silva says the woman gave birth around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Police say the husband and wife were in her room hours later when he pulled a gun and shot himself. The wife wasn’t hurt. Silva had no details on the gender of the baby, who wasn’t in the room during the incident. And just to show you how the average american will jump at the chance to thieve if they think they can get away with it: San Francisco (CBS SF) — A woman who dined at a Newark seafood restaurant on her birthday and was handed the wrong credit card by the waitress at the end of her meal was arrested after she took the card and headed to a nearby mall on Sunday evening, police said. Jheline Demesa, 22, of San Leandro, ate dinner at Ray’s Crab Shack at 5989 Mowry Ave., where the waitress mistakenly gave her a credit card from an adjacent table, police said. Instead of returning the card, Demesa allegedly left the restaurant with it, police said. The real cardholder tried to cancel the credit card a short time later but learned that transactions had been made on it at the NewPark Mall across the street, Newark police Cmdr. Mike Carroll said. The victim notified police about the incident at 6:20 p.m., Carroll said. The restaurant owner managed to find an image of Demesa captured by a surveillance camera inside the eatery and gave it to the victim, who went to the mall to look for her, Carroll said. The victim and mall security located Demesa then notified police, Carroll said. Officers arrested Demesa shortly after 8 p.m. on suspicion of commercial burglary and credit card fraud, Carroll said. Demesa was booked into the Santa Rita Jail, police said. http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2013/...why-he-did-it/ http://wtkr.com/2013/08/12/newport-n...-dead-in-home/ http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2013/08/12/m...hospital-room/ http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/201...aurant-mix-up/ |

What HomeGuy isn't telling you is that just about a week ago two young brothers in New Brunswick, Canada were killed by an African Rock Python in their sleep. They were buried in the same casket just a few days ago.
The brothers had been playing with ducks and goats at a family farm earlier in the day, and it's suspected that they smelled like food to the python. The 12 foot long python was housed in a cage on the main floor of a pet store, and the two brothers were sleeping in the apartment above the store. Apparantly the python got out of it's enclosure and slithered up the heating vents into the room where the boys were sleeping and strangled one, then the other. The two boys, 4 and 6 years old were laid to rest last Sunday (I think). http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-br...oys-vigil.html You see, HomeGuy, stuff like this can happen anywhere, even right here in Canada. The US has 10 times as many people as we do, and so it's not surprising that they have 10 times as many bizarre incidents as we do. Pointing them out doesn't make Americans inferior or Canadians superior to any other nationality on this planet. Last edited by nestork : August 13th 13 at 07:51 PM |

And besides, pointing out the most bizarre crimes doesn't prove anything. For the most part, Americans live their lives just the same way we Canadians do; without killing dogs or shooting themselves, both for no apparant reason. Don't forget the 'funny' story...When Feinstein was mayor of San Francisco, she and her husband went out to dinner. At the restaurant they turned over their keys to the 'valet' parking attendant. However, when they cae out later, they discovered the restaurant had NO valet parking and their car had been stolen. |
