As opposed to UN folks. I can agree with

The business accountant is saying that a combined
fed and state tax on income of 25 and 30% results in
entrepeneurs "pushing forward to make more money,

have I said that a federal flat income tax of 20 or 23%
is what we need. You would exempt incomes below
a certain level. Everything about that would be taxed
at 20%, with very few, deductions allowed. Instead of
filling out pages and pages of forms and winding up
paying about that much, you'd get there directly. Add in
state taxes which can be from 0 to 10% and you have
a total income tax rate that is right in the accountant's
range.

Why exempt incomes below a certain level? On a rational basis, the
low-income folks should pay MORE - as a percentage of their income - than
the well-to-do since they use more of government services. The rich do not
get free food, lodging, medical services, and the like. Sure, the rich are
driven on public roads and their jets do fly in regulated air space, so they
should pay something. But their kids are not educated in government schools
nor do they have to seek assistance from the county hospital.

Besides, if you made the income tax system totally regressive (those at the
bottom pay more than those at the top), this would serve as a powerful
incentive for the under-class to improve themselves.

Just a thought.

If you don't believe that DoD spending has increased by 68% since 2002
then give us a graph to back up your version of these facts.

If anything I suspect that understates the increase. I'm to lazy to
look into their data but have to wonder if they are including the cost
of the Afghanistan war and Iraqi war, I know for most of the bush
administration those were "off budget" which meant we pretended they
didn't cost us anything. I have also found that in most analysis of
military spending they do NOT include the cost of the VA and other
social services that are required as a direct result of the regular
military spending, i.e. when people are "in" the military that might
count as military spending, but when they get out and need the VA or
are getting unemployment or state health care for their PTSS that
makes them unfit to work or function, that's not counted as a military
cost.

Per The Daring Dufas:
It was The English invaders who killed The Native Americans. ^_^

From what I've read/seen documentary-wise, I get the picture that
it was cholera, measles, flu, smallpox, and other diseases that
Europeans had acquired immunity to over the years, but the Native
Americans had not.

Soon after the Pilgrims got settled, whole villages of Native
Americans in New England just ceased to exist. Overall numbers
seem to have been 40-80 percent depending on whose estimates are
used. For Hawaiians, it was 80-90 percent.

The TV series "Guns, Germs, and Steel" gets around to it.

There's a bunch books on the subject. I can't recall the title
of the one I read a bunch of years ago... but it was fascinating
reading: a whole different perspective on Western domination of
The Americas.

killed off a comparable number of Europeons.

In the early history of America, when the 13 colonies had just formed their union, not everyone could vote. Only men who owned land could vote, and you could count on them to vote for whomever promised the smallest increase, or largest decrease in property taxes.

Nowadays, everyone over 18 can vote, and one of the resulting downfalls of such a broadbased democracy is that the person who gets elected to run the country is generally the one who promises the most to the greatest number of voters. And, the country going into debt to pay for that ever increasing amount of spending is predictable.

Dictatorships don't have that problem. When you pay taxes to a dictator, he considers it HIS money, and spends it accordingly. So, he makes sure to spend less than he gets, and that's the 1st Law of Economics in staying out of debt.

We had a similar problem here in Canada during the 1980's. Our elected leaders would run off to some foreign country to borrow a truckload of money before every federal election. They'd use that money to finance make work programs for 6 months to a year before the election in the hopes of getting themselves re-elected. And all it did was drive our country deeper and deeper into debt. We finally passed a law prohibiting that kind of government borrowing and spending. But, before we passed that law, interest rates in Canada increased to over 20 percent for a few months as our country going bankrupt looked progressively more inevitable.

Democracy, where you elect your own Robin Hood, has it's ugly side when the factory worker's ballot counts for just the same as the factory owner's ballot. It's not communism itself, but that communistic egalitarianism inherant in our system of "one man - one vote" democracy that will bring it to an end.

You didn't come from a tribe. But you did come from a family. Did
your family require you to work when you were a 4 year old in order to
get food, clothing, and shelter from them?

Yes, I was beaten and tortured on a regular basis then when I was six
years old I was remanded to a Catholic Parochial Gulag where I was
violated by Irish nuns. O_o

I have no fear of terrorists because as a small boy, I had Irish nuns
for teachers. Nothing scares me except for an irrational fear of albino
penguins. O_o

I tried using one of those clickers to train my dog.
I suddenly started having nightmares of corridors and wide stairwells with
children moving along the sides looking scared.
Decided to use a different signal with the dog
:-p

Indeed
At a school whose name translates to "Garden of Childhood" run by the
Sisters of Providence.
It was at the Mother house of an order that trained missionary nuns that
went out as teachers.
They're still around and doing their mission world-wide.

When I was a post toddler, the accepted method of behavior control for
children was the instilling of a state of constant terror in them. At
the gulag, there was Sister Godzilla, Sister Torture, Sister Bodyslam,
Sister Defenestration, Sister Exsanguination and surprisingly, the
nicest and sweetest to the children were Sister Rack and Sister Mary
Iron Maiden. The principal was Mother Mothra and the parish priests were
Father Bigfoot and Father Chupacabra. When I was six years old, I
decided all adults were full of crap, the mistake I made was letting the
nuns know it. They could read your mind and see through walls ya
know. ^_^

I see. So rather then admit that your family did operate, like almost
all families, even dysfunctional ones, as a socialist/communist
organization, you will just wander off.

The intellectually false and dishonest claims that families operate on
socialist/communist principles, is inherently false for a variety of reasons
that the claimants choose to ignore.

So why don't you explain how it's false.
