That could be it, but it looks different. The ones I see are just a
piece of screen wire. Maybe this one is better.

My next idea is to supplement this filter with an external filter. The
in-laws have a lot of crap in their water. I'd like to trap it before it
gets to the washing machine inlet filter.

Those will lift out and clean with CLR and replace. Also a good idea to use
the ones Oren showed to put in the inlet end of hose where it attaches to
the faucet. Next time easier to get to and clean WW Long time in washer
repair service.(retired)
