Default OT Kraut toilets.

In view of the clear fascination some folks here have with lavatories
and urinals, I thought this might be of interest.

Most amusing but very true. I concur from my experience of working in
Wiesbaden a number of years ago.

My parents finally decided (long after I'd left the house) to ditch those
toilets for more "modern" ones. The toilets were Dutch, not German ...

I do now too. I lived with one of those until I went to college. I'm now
still crazy(TM), but I survived until 67.

It was 25 years ago on European tour. Can't remember country but will
never forget toilet.

Another hotel had a toilet in the shower. You could not take a shower
without getting the toilet all wet.

I recall seeing some of those when I was stationed in Germany in the
mid-70's.

However, my favorite German toilet was the one the owner's of a bar we
frequented use to bring out at least once a night.

The owners had three things:

1 - A very fancy, hand painted antique toilet bowl
2 - An spiked German Army helmet, known as a Pickelhauben (this name
is significant)
3 - A serious dislike of the things that the German military engaged
in back in WWII.

During the evening's activities of drinking and dice games, the owners
would take the Pickelhauben, insert it spike down into the toilet and
fill it with pickles.

They would then walk around the bar offering free pickles to anyone
that was interested.

Most patrons took it all in good fun, but they're were certainly those
that were offended. The owners, a couple of mid-30's country boys,
never took any crap from anyone. If you didn't like it, you either
kept your opinion to yourself or were free to leave. I swear that
there were times when they specifically targeted certain patrons to
get a reaction.
