Well communism failed too. So you need a middle of the road system and keep the mad/greedy dogs out of it. Preferrably in jail somewhere. Start by moving these financiers/"bankers" to GITMO as the place is already up and running. We need people who finance commerce and innovation, not casino types. Oh, we have such a system in the UK. Probably not possible in America because greed ansd aquisition has been inculcated from an early age. USAians all think anything different is "socialism" or "communism" when in fact with few exceptions they have no clue as to what it's all about. Might see a revival of this organisation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communist_Party_USA They got more things right than GOP. Occupation is spreading well I see. Nice little riot in Italy. We had a minor one here, there is not the desperation here. Yet. |

What exactly is that wonderful middle of the road system? Is it socialism, ala Greece? Last time I checked that's what's been a total failure and the country is broke. Or France? Seems to be plenty of discontent and riots there with similar demands to the Wall Street protesters. As for greed, it's part of free market economics and there is nothing inherently wrong with it. Each participant seeks to maximize their profits. The competition in the marketplace is what limits those profits. What price would you sell your house for Harry? Being a good commie, would you just sell it for what you paid for it? Or woud you calculate some fair price based on the circumstances of whatever buyer might show up? Or would you do what the rest of us would do and sell it for as much as possible? *Start by moving these financiers/"bankers" to GITMO as the place is already up and running. Greed is one of the seven deadly sins. Now you can see why. I sell my house when I need to move. I have done work on the house so I always have made a profit. These guys just buy and sell and do no useful work. They create no wealth or anything else useful. They rumour monger and do insider trading, none of which creates wealth. They are thieves, looting theeconomy of the world. I hear in America a lot have been charged with fraud and false accounting etc. And a lot have got away with it due to employing expensive lawyers http://www.enotes.com/shakespeare-qu...ll-all-lawyers Sound advice. Good account here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zZ_JfROhOE |

I think it can be better but, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. If you think we're on the verge of collapse you have an obscure view of life in America. 24 hour news can distort things dramatically. |

Yeah, we're not on the verge of collapse, but just ask any right-wing politician and they will tell you we are on the verge of collapse. |

I think it can be better but, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water. If you think we're on the verge of collapse you have an obscure view of life in America. 24 hour news can distort things dramatically.- The only reason you had the good life was that your aristocracy feared workers revolution (supportedby the USSR) if things got too bad. Now the USSR has disappeared they think they can do as they like. (Think about it, the good times existed at the same time as communism.) But actually, it hasn't. They are just biding there time. The Russians are well resourced. It will be interewting to see what happens when Putin gets back in power. Many Russians want to go back to the "Good old days" However it was completely unsustainable. Things are going to have to change radically. It will be a painful process. The high old lifestyle was underpinned by cheap fossil fuel. Now that has gone, there will be savage readjustments. There are some dopey buggers in this group can't get their brains round this. We have this vanishing resource and as it vanishes certain members of society are ensuring that they can continue with their own lifestyle at the expense of everyone else. There are certain politicians out there bent on taking advantage of the situation to further their own ends. None of them has a clue but they mouth platitudes, ie they tell people what they want to hear, ie that things can go on as before (There is a class of low intelligence that takes comfort from this.) Well they can't, and capitalist/market driven economies have failed to prepare for the event due to failing to take the long view. So there is goiing to be a period of chaos and hardship until matters are resolved. I believe in some 3rd world overpopulated countries, excess population (sustained by cheap fossil fuel) will now starve to death. You need to watch a variety of news sources. American news is by far the worst. Try Al Jazeera, BBC, RTTV and France 24, they are all on the internet, satellite and youtube. But you have to keep in mind where they are coming from. |

I don't see many right-wing politicians saying we are on the verge of collapse. I do see most of them saying that if we continue the current excessive govt. spending, it won't be too much longer before we are in serious trouble. Do you disagree with that? The federal budget has increased 40% from 2007 to 2011. Has your family budget gone up like that? On the other hand, I don't see the libs concerned at all about reckless spending. They just want MORE of it, without regard to the consequences. Obama's latest $500bil stimulus being the most recent example. First one that was $830bil didn't work, so instead of trying other solutions, their only idea is to now try one half that size. |

This is totally new territory, quite unlike anthing that has gone on before. If you want the Keynsian model you have to start in the good times not the bad. I believe the gov plan is to create massive inflation so they can pay off debts with near worthless money. Just tough **** if you have savings, a pension or an annuity. It will be worthless. I don't know what the answer to this is. I'm still thinking about it. |
