Moving a deck and pool
My parents have a 4 year old 16x32 doughboy oval pool. They have torn
the liner inadvertantly cleaning it and have decided they dont want it anymore. They just put a salt water system in it last year. The deck completely encirles the pool and cost a lit of money. How hard would it be to take this apart and reuse both the deck and pool at my house? How would you go about taking apart the deck in pieces where it could be reassembled? I have a tractor and trailer at my disposal. I appreciate any advice. Do these things increase/decrease the value of your home? |

I have a tractor and trailer at my disposal. I appreciate any advice. Decks are usually built to remain permanently in one place i.e. with no eye to disassembly. Labour costs to disassemble depend how it was fastened in the first place (nails, screws or bolts.) It may be overall cheaper to build new with new lumber. An encircling deck often costs more than an AG pool. Pool assembly requires experience or special care (to prepare sand base etc.) -- perhaps worth hiring a specialist if you can find one. Local municipal regulations will let you know whether you are required to have a deck with an AG pool, a fence surrounding it etc. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

If the deck is screwed together just disassemble it. If it's nailed together, tear it down and dispose. Pool disassembly is pretty simple. If you've never put one together, seek professional help. A local pool store may provide leads. Do these things increase/decrease the value of your home? A deck might. An above ground pool, no. -- Dan Espen |
