Default Replacing a lawn sprinkler pipe that passes under a pave brickwalkway - final outcome

The original problem was posted 9/9/10, 8:09 AM, called "Replacing
section of lawn sprinkler pipe." It's repeated below. Someone asked
that I post the outcome in a separate message. Here it is:

Never underestimate the power of two muscular guys. They were able to
snake a new 1" pipe in the same hole as the old one, joining the new
with the old with a coupling, with one pushing, the other pulling.
They arrived at 2:10 and drove away 2:32. Very impressive.

Thanks, again, to everyone for your comments.

What did the old one look like? Any obvious spots showing rocks pressing against
it to produce the leaks you said were there? If so, the leaks are likely to
reappear.

I thought the last break had been under the pavers. It was actually just
before the pipe passed under the pavers. The pipe was very brittle; just
by squeezing it with the thumb and index finger, you could hear it crackle.

Inadvertently, I oversimplified how they removed the old pipe. Their
initial efforts of one guy pulling on one end and the other pushing from
the opposite side of the walkway didn't work; the side being pulled
simply broke because of its brittleness. So they cut the pipe, about one
foot out from where it passed under the walkway. Then they simply put a
wood (or some other material) block against the cut end and tapped it
with a hammer. Once the initial friction was overcome, they coupled the
new pipe into the old and pushed it through rather easily. True pros.
