Default OT America and oil

The hullabaloo carries on about the Gulf oil spill.
I have already pointed out that American organisations are deeply
implicated in this disaster.
There have been worse disasters caused by the reckless activity of
American oil companies but Americans don't care because it was far far
away. Now the bird is home to roost y'all are jumping up and down.
Here's just a couple of examples:-

Exxon
http://newsdesk.org/2010/06/niger-de...-catastrophes/

Chevron
http://www.chevroninecuador.com/2010...ocrisy-is.html

These are major ONGOING disasters, thousands of people have died/ are
dying as a result. Thousands more have lost their livelyhoods. As a
result of AMERICAN oil companies.
No compensation has been paid to these victims, indeed the companies
involved are doing their best to avoid paying for any cleanup or
compensation.
In view of all this, it's hypocritical to rant about the Gulf spill
victims. No compensation should be paid to them either. They should
just get on with their lives as the inhabitants of Nigeria, and Ecuador
have had to.
Just so American motorists can have cheap petrol.

World's oil pills.

Amazing how many are American linked.

What has brought all this on is American thirst for oil and the fact
oil products have been sold far too cheaply resulting in the waste of
the world's precious resource.

And there are those who say America's might is wasted! [The U.S. Coast Guard
is larger than any other country's navy! (85,000 personnel-including
reserves, 2,000 vessels, 200 aircraft.]

And the cost of our petrol is the same as it is just about anywhere else -
it's just that we don't levy horrendous taxes.

The fact that "American" companies are involved in accidents is no surprise.
These could just as easily have been French companies or German companies or
Mexican companies. We just don't levy the taxes other countries do and this
allows American companies to thrive.

Some 85% of the world's oil is directly produced and sold by governments,
not private companies.

Those governments are unlikely to prohibit themselves from being able to
drill in areas that are convenient and easy to secure against accidents.

As usual, the rabble rousing village idiot has the facts wrong. In
this case, trying to lay the blame for Nigeria's oil spills on the USA
is bogus. All the oil drilling projects there are joint ventures
between the Nigerian government, an OPEC member and various oil
companies. The largest operation, which produces over half of all the
oil, is owned 55% by Nigeria, 30% by Holland based Shell, 10% by
French Elf, and 5% by Italian Agip. In fact, it was the British who
discovered oil there and BP previously owned part of the operation now
owned by Shell.

Also, a lot of the oil spills have been caused by everything from
sabotage by guerilla groups, to poor folks cutting pipelines to steal
gasoline.

The only way you arrive at the conclusion that the USA is to blame is
by starting out with a hate America agenda.
