Default cabinet doorsw

i recently stripped, sanded and re stained some cabinet doors and all
went well except after applying a clear coat sealer and letting it dry
the surface has little bumps on it. i noticed that whilst applying the
clear coat that there were a few little bubbles while still wet and i'm
assuming that the bubbles are now the hardened bumps. should i try to
remove these bumps with steel wool and reapply the clear coat or wil i
just scratch up the surface?
thanks, cj

what clear coat did you use? some can be coated over, some can't because the
2 coats won't bond unless the existing coat is abraded.

you can use a card scraper to remove bumps.

I think he means the original coat, not the new stuff. This sort of
thing can happen if any of the old stuff is left behind when you
finished sanding.

no, he means what is the product, not what is the product name. minwax makes
hundreds of products (shellac, poly, lacquer, varnish, oil, and probably
some others), and the answer is different depending upon what that product
is.

Very fine steel wool should do the trick .. it will dull the finish, but
another coat of clear should do the trick. I find that there are fewer
bubbles to contend with if clear coat is thinned slightly (according to
label). Of course, you don't shake it - just stir very gently. Be sure
to clean off all dust/residue so you don't get little particles of steel
wool in the finish.

If you shake vs stir many clear coats, that will result in "bubbles" even
if it sits overnight before using.

Compare the product directions to what you actually did.

If the bumps are not bubbles then it may be dust. Before applying clear,
wipe with a damp cloth and let fully dry. Wipe with a tack cloth right
before clear coat.

Other replies addressed re-clear coating.
