The tile screed, how is this tool used?

It is used to work the thickset mortar on the walls and floor for laying tiles the old fashioned way. For each wall or area to be tiled, lath is installed on the wall after building paper. A couple of screed boards are attached to the wall or floor. These are installed perfectly plumb and in plane with each other. The mortar is applied to the wall and then the tile screeds are used to screed the mortar to a perfectly flat surface. When the mortar sets, the screed boards are removed and the grooves filled in with more mortar. Tile is then installed onto the mortar bed. -- Robert Allison Rimshot, Inc. Georgetown, TX |
