Default Garden Faucet corrosion?

What's the slightly white stuff on the threads of garden faucets,
and the kitchen faucet aerator screw for that matter, that prevents
screwing anything on? Calcium deposit?

How do you get it off? Vinegar?

Yes

Not aggressive enough. Try CLR, other calcium solubilizers, or
automotive radiator flush (oxalic acid crystals).

muratic acid will also work.

After you have gotten them clean, a dab of faucet/plumber's grease
does wonders. Those steel "toothbrushes" you can get in any good
hardware store are especially helpful. Get a bigger hammer....

Caution! Muriatic acid (HCl) will dissolve the zinc out of the brass
faucet alloy. Use good judgement handling such strong acids.

Vinegar will do it. Just takes a lot longer to dissolve heavy buildups and
may have to be replenished with fresh if it quits bubbling.
